NRN should be conferred with "BHARATH RATNA" ?

Read this in Times of India today.

N.R. Narayanamurthy, founder of Infosys, is among the 12 "greatest entrepreneurs of our time".  It includes Microsoft founder Bill Gates and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg for turning "concepts into companies" and changing the "face of business".

NRN got this honor for his pioneering work for changing the face of Indian IT industry thru outsourcing.

He is the man behind the outsourcing revolution which has changed the lives of millions of Indians and has put the country in the Global arena.

IMHO, he should be nominated for "Bharath Ratna".

‘five-star' schools

I read this impressive article yesterday in "THE HINDU" newspaper (http://www.thehindu.com/opinion/open-page/article3220755.ece

I would request every parent to read this article before putting their ward in any of those 'flashy jazzy so-called high-flying" schools.   At least in the corporate world, that has been the trend.

In the age of 'Touch-screen" - we are loosing human touch.
In the age of "Facebook" - we are undermining Face-to-Face communication.
In the age of "Corporate Culture" - we see diminishing social culture.
When we talk about "Gen-Next" - we seldom think about our past generations which has taught so much.

Simple example to illustrate unity and integrity

Open your hands with your fingers raised.
See the fingers carefully.  They are all disintegrated, disjoint and are of different sizes.

Now, folder the fingers.
See the folded fingers carefully.   What do you see?
They are all integrated, together and probably gives us an
impression that they are of same size from bottom.

Life is all about adjusting, bending, supporting, sacrificing.

Recently, heard this dialog in a Tamil drama and thought of blogging it for the benefit of others.

Developing The Leader Within You

Recently I read a book called by DEVELOPING THE LEADER WITHIN YOU by John C Maxwell.  The book is highly motivating, insightful and every people manager should keep a copy as a ready reckoner.

After reading thru, I thought of jotting down the following useful observations

  • People want to be listened, respected and understood
  • Consistency and Integrity are two major behaviors a leader should develop.
  • Capitalize on opportunities to develop people
  • Use 'We' instead of 'I'
  • Confront in private and appreciate in public.   Do these quickly
  • Embrace change one at a time
  • Select people who can help you with the change
  • Encourage risk taking
  • Seek continuous feedback and show visible improvements
  • Do a project with the team embracing one change that would instill confidence on people
  • Always show empathy

Well, there are many other thoughts in the book with some lively examples and illustrations.   But, I thought the above ones are simply the most important one that any leader should possess.

Diamante Poems

My son introduced me to Diamante Poems today.    A Diamante poem is a written in the shape of a diamond.   It starts with a one word topic and ends with a one word either in favor or against the topic.  The flavor to the poem is given using adjectives and ing-words.

My first Diamante poem...
